RISING Severn Bridge tolls are not bad news for everyone – they have helped bring customers to at least one local shop.
559 Bikes in Manor Way is celebrating its 10th birthday this weekend and is doing well as people look for cheaper and environmentally friendly ways to travel.
Owner Sarah Reeve said: "We definitely seeing more people wanting to cycle. We get a lot of people who commute to Bristol and they are cycling from Chepstow because of the cost of the bridge."
Sarah started as manager in 2006 and took over the business in 2008 and says being part of the community is important – the shop often provides raffle prizes and biking advice to schools and local groups.
"I have always been passionate about biking and know how important it is to make sure people are riding the right bike."
The shop also has a busy workshop for repair and servicing bikes and Sarah took on a member of staff last October.
Sarah also organises bike rides around the area twice a month on Tuesday evenings and the shop has supported a successful 24-hour mountain bike race team and plans to support a downhill racer this year.
The anniversary will be marked with special offers in the shop on Saturday (January 14).
