THERE was a goal for Littledean veteran and birthday boy Del Grinstead against Whitecroft, helping them to a 2-0 scoreline, but the game wasn't a pushover for anyone, said Littledean manager Neal Breeden.

And to make his big day complete Del received a booking that should have been avoided.

"As our oldest player he should have known better," said Breeden, who was nevertherless delighted with the result.

They were after all playing a side that beat them at home and away last season, "and it's always good to get one back over them," he said.

"Our goalkeeper, Sean Jennings, did not have a lot to do. We were happy when we went one up (Dan Gwilliam) but even happier with the final score thanks to Del.

"It wasn't an easy game however and everyone put in a lot of effort. We were under the cosh a bit both halves."

The win leaves them around ninth in the division, but it's a good place to be said Breeden.

"At the end of last season we were last but one from the bottom and I'd have been happy this year to finish even one above that. But if we keep on playing like we are we could be quite a lot higher for our second year."

They were now proving themselves as a good side, but fantastic support from local sponsors and the village was also a vital factor helping success.
