THE folk of Westbury will soon be hearing bells...all thanks to a campaign to win £60,000 in a TV contest for its church bell tower repairs.

"We won!" said a delighted Neal Tappin on Tuesday. "Thank you, Review, and all of your readers, for your great support.

"As you can probably imagine we are bouncing off the walls – and I'm actually holding a cheque for the £60,000!"

The Bells Restoration Team and many local supporters put in a tremendous effort up to the very last minute to harvest a wave of phone-in support.

The win sets up the church's six 300-year-old bells, silent since 2005 because of worn bearings, to ring for the next three centuries.  The heaviest ring of six bells in the county is now on target to ring again for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and for local girl Zara Kibble's wedding next year.
