A GROUP which rescues and re-homes spaniels held its first ever dog show recently at The Miners Country Inn in Sling near Coleford, to raise funds for surgery for a spaniel called Charlie.

Organiser, Eve Ford from Worrall Hill, who featured in the paper when she raised funds for Spaniel Assist Rescue and Rehoming (SARR) by dressing as a spaniel and touring Coleford earlier this year, said: “Our founder Dawn Clough made an eight-hour round-trip to attend. She met volunteers, fosterers, adopters and, most importantly, the dogs she has helped re-home. In some cases she has saved their lives.

“The team who put the show together had worked hard and it paid off; we raised over £1,150 on the day with more money still coming in.

“Members of SARR came from all over the country as well as from the Forest, indeed one of our members left Scotland at 1am so he could come and support us. Donations to the show in the form of raffle prizes, goods for sale and home-made cakes came from members and supporters too.”

SARR rescues spaniels which are then fostered in homes for rehabilitation and assessment before rehoming.

“All proceeds  from the show are going towards the urgent heart surgery of one of our dogs,” Eve added. “The vet bill for the surgery is £4,000. Charlie is 11 months old and now, thanks to donations from our members and the dog show, he will have the long and happy life he deserves.

“Thank you everyone who came and supported us, it was a very hot day but all the dogs behaved impeccably.”
