MEMBERS of Chepstow Amateur Dramatic Society have the support of Hollywood superstar Doris Day when they stage their production of 'Calamity Jane' in the town's Leisure Centre next week.
Doris Day played alongside Howard Keel in the 1953 production which featured many hit songs including The Deadwood Stage, Windy City and Secret Love.
She has a link with Chepstow through society member Martin Woodsford, of Tutshill, who just happened to be the founder of an international Doris Day Fan Club.
So using his connections with the Hollywood star Martin now has signed photographs of Doris Day wishing the society every success.
Martin said: "She has sent her encouragement to the society for the production and in their quest to find sponsorship and publicise the show."
Martin, who has a role in the Chepstow production and is also a member of the committee, said the show was almost ditched because of lack of funds.
"Musical shows like these are extremely expensive to produce. We need sponsorship to help us succeed in the future," he said.
Next week's show, he says, promises to be a whip-cracking success. It will be performed from Wednesday to Saturday at the Leisure Centre and tickets can be obtained from The Stroud and Swindon Building Society in Chepstow.
