A NEW writing workshop is being set up in the Forest and there are high hopes it will uncover a wealth of local talent.
The scheme has been launched by village drama group, The Parkend Players.
President Maureen Timmins explained: "There are a lot of people who write – it is a great therapy. But so many of them have no idea how to progress their work and it remains hidden in cupboards and drawers.
"We hope our workshop will help them progress. It is said there is a novel in every one of us but so many people keep their writing talents hidden."
The workshop, called 'WriteHereWriteNow' will be held at Parkend Memorial Hall on Monday evenings, probably starting in mid-February. A dozen people have already expressed an interest.
"Our aim is to help anyone interested in the art of writing either as a hobby or a profession. There are many writing courses but often they are expensive and directed at specific aspects such as journalism or screen-writing. We hope to cover every aspect of the writing craft over a 12-week period," said Mrs Timmins.
In the future there could be further workshops specialising in writing for children and advanced writing.
Mrs Timmins will be the tutor and points to her own success.
"It is possible to achieve if you know how. At present I have two films under preliminary contracts with a producer in California," she said.
