A SACKFUL of belongings including a mobile phone, Irish euro coins and a lottery entry for January 22 found in woods near Blakeney has set a poser for Review reporter Ted Lamb.

"There was also a plastic tub of brown powder that could be drugs, anything," he said after making the find about a quarter of a mile from the Wenchford picnic site.

"It was well-hidden in a gully with a stream at the bottom and I don't usually walk that way – on the day I took a short cut and stumbled on it.

"There was a Motorola mobile phone, the tub, fruit peel, a light bulb and a decorative leather belt and a few pounds worth of euro coins, all Irish. Whoever left it might have been in a hurry.

"I called the police at Coleford but they didn't seem to be too interested in coming out to the site. Instead they asked if I would bring it all in to them.

"I was a little bit amazed by this considering all the advice about being vigilant because of terrorism and not touching anything – the tub might have held anthrax spores for all they know.

"It might also give information about a missing person or some other crime – I half expected there to be a body nearby. It doesn't take much imagination. I'm sure they could get details from the phone's sim card, even though everything was soaked."

The collection has been taken by Ted to Lydney police station, where desk staff said they would get someone to go through it.
