THE owners of a recycling business are being taken to court over an alleged pollution incident which killed up to 15,000 fish.

Mark and Anne Bennion of Rose Hill Recycling in Dymock are accused by the Environment Agency of causing an ammonia leak into the River Leadon which had "a significant impact on a 19km stretch of the river".

They are due to appear before Hereford magistrates on Friday, November 24, to answer charges of causing "a water discharge activity, namely a discharge of digestate, into the Preston Brook and River Leadon."

The pollution, which was reported to Dymock Parish Council, allegedly happened on July 22, 2016 at Rose Hill Farm.

The EA report to councillors said: “Species that have been found dead include brown trout, chub, eel, dace, roach, lamprey and bream."
