A STITCH in time ... that could easily be the motto of pensioner Edna Kear. Her diligent work with knitting needles is being praised this week as an outstanding example of how a little effort can go a long way to boosting a community project.
Mrs Kear, of Worcester Walk, Broadwell, near Coleford, has quietly but industriously spent the past decade boosting the funds of the hard-pressed village play area by knitting and selling the garments.
"She has been hand knitting and selling garments even since the Trust was formed. It is the kind of support that is invaluable and is very greatly appreciated," said secretary and trustee Jill Madley.
The future of the play area could now be under threat unless more volunteers come forward.
Mrs Madley is hoping local people will offer to help with repairs and maintenance to equipment and the perimeter fence.
"Gestures of support such as this could help the committee so much and are urgently needed," said Mrs Madley.
