FOREST RNLI supporter Emily Ravenhill is making her second attempt to swim the English Channel during a window between July 19 and 24.

On her first attempt was 12 months ago Emily almost made it – she could make out the houses on the French coast quite clearly – but succumbed to a serious coughing fit from swallowing too much sea water.

Gloucestershire RNLI treasurer David Pagett says: "This lady's determination is, quite frankly, amazing. I was really surprised to learn that Emily undergoes regular and rigorous training in Dover Harbour, along with several other locations too.

"Despite not quite completing the swim 12 months ago, Emily still managed to raise over £1,000 that was shared equally between the RNLI and the Bathurst Open Air Swimming Pool in Lydney.

"Let's do what we can to help her beat that figure this year!"
