MEET a couple of little charmers who took a shine to Adam and Richard Naylor when they went to the Veterinary Health Centre open day in Moor Street, Chepstow.
The event was organised as part of National Pet Week, and the boys' new friends are an imperial scorpion and a Mexican red-kneed tarantula, who both pack a bit of a surprise if moved to give you a nip.
Of course for the less adventurous there were the usual cuddly pups and kittens, and the day was designed to show that pets are valuable to us all for companionship – but we in turn owe them the respect of looking after them with great care.
Even if, sometimes, you wouldn't really want to reach out and pat one, let alone getting on more intimate terms!
Head nurse Joanna McEwan said they had a very good response to the open day, which exceeded all their expectations.
