SID Phelps states that the EU has kept peace in Europe but he fails to take into account the following facts:

•At the end of the Second World War all the major countries of Europe were exhausted and bankrupt.

•The United Nations was formed in 1945 with the express aim of maintaining world peace. Currently there are 193 member countries of the UN.

•Approximately half of the continent was occupied by the USSR. Most of the rest had US troops stationed on their soil.

•For over 40 years Germany was occupied by four of the five countries of the Security Council of the UN.

•NATO was formed in 1949 to counter the threat of the USSR

•The Warsaw Pact was formed in 1955 to counter the threat of NATO

•When the USSR collapsed there were still many American troops in Europe ensuring that Europe remain peaceful and in Britain's case at their beck and call. At that stage America was the only recognised superpower.

•Currently there are four nuclear powers with weapons in Europe: Britain, France, Russia and USA, thus ensuring that "Mutually Assured Destruction" continues to maintain peace.

He also claims that the EU has passed a lot of beneficial legislation which would not otherwise be in force in the UK.

The implication therefore is that the electorate, civil servants and MPs of this country are not capable of running the country to the benefit of the population of the UK as a whole.

If that is the case then I would suggest that the country would be better off without Lib/Lab/Con as they are the ones who are, and have been at Westminster since the Second World War.

I do however agree with Sid that the EU is bureaucratic, inefficient, lacks any accountability and on top of that is incredibly expensive to run. The sooner Great Britain once again has full control over its own affairs the better.
