I THOUGHT the biggest shock of my day was the price of a first class letter going up but there were more shocks to come as I stood in Bank Street.

I was on the pavement chatting but there were two cars and a van parked in the street so cars wishing to pass had to mount the pavement.

This led to irate drivers honking for me to get off the pavement.

I couldn't find a policeman and I'm not sure if Chepstow has a traffic warden or dog warden so what's next – closing the pavement for health and safety?
