THERE is nothing quite like an aspiring local politician for climbing on the bandwagon.
Reading would-be councillor Brian Jones' propaganda leaflet, distributed in Cinderford, really plumbs new depths for extravagant claims.
He states under the heading 'Road Repair Success' – 'Some of the rods in Cinderford are in dire need of repair' etc (not my spelling mistake!)
He goes on to say: 'I contacted Highways at Gloucester and I am pleased to say that not only has it been properly repaired but re-surfaced and now new kerbing has been put in.'
What he didn't say was the fact that this work has been scheduled in GCC Highways' programme for several years.
The fact that this work has been completed owes absolutely nothing to any phone call he may possibly have made.
I am sure voters will welcome any road improvements in the area but none at all are due to the intervention of an opportunist individual for his own political ends.
He claims that he is working hard throughout the year – local councillors do that all the time.
I note that his so-called concerns regarding speeding traffic and boy racers are being dealt with by Gloucestershire Police, the Forestry Commission, FODDC, Cinderford Town Council and other local councils cooperating together.
Mr Jones clearly has no experience or knowledge of council matters – heaven forbid that he should ever be elected to any office with his creative mis-representation of the facts. – Cinderford resident (name and address supplied).
