I HAVE read much debate recently reference Chepstow town centre. May I chuck my two pence in?
Every time I walk through Chepstow it disgusts me the state our town is in! Thousands of pounds were spent on all new stonework and pavements to show our history which has now been left to ruin! I don't know which councils are responsible for the upkeep of all this work but the condition of the stonework is disgusting! Covered in algae and moss and no one seems to want to clean it up.
The biggest bug bear to me is the cenotaph, a truly magnificent memorial to our fallen lies in tatters! Covered in algae and moss.
Last week there was a service held to remember a long fallen hero and you only have to look at your own pictures to see the state of the memorial itself and the steps to it. Why do Chepstow town council do nothing about it I ask? I did indeed ask our present mayor and he said he would look into it.
This is an eyesore to the people of Chepstow and indeed to our visitors!! This is a monument of respect so I ask the town council, why do you not respect it and have it cleaned? I don't want to hear health and safety reasons, I want it cleaned and restored to the true memorial it is.
