A FINE game of cricket and a great victory achieved with two overs to spare catapulted Newnham into the new league season in style on Saturday.

All seems to be going well for the Severnside club. A youth policy many others will envy has guaranteed a steady stream of young players while the facilites and wicket are widely admired.

Club spokesman Dan Keddle says several seasons of hard work now seems to be paying dividends.

"We are beginning to reap the benefit of our youth policy and the plan now is to steadily introduce young players to the senior team. On Saturday Isaac Lewis and Will Fenn both played and did well," he said.

Cam made an encouraging start. The pace was set by 15 year-old batsmen Fin Dixon who contributed

72 in his team's 40 over total of 160. Top Newnham bowler was James Kenny – his spell of off-breaks earned him three wickets for 24 runs.

In reply Newnham made a great start, Richard Fenn and James Bell putting on 75 for the first wicket. Fenn hit 75 and Bell, 27.

To complete a fine allround performance, Newnham skipper Kenny steered his team home with an unbeaten 24.
