MARGARET and Sid Jones may be the Forest’s oldest ‘paper girl’ and ‘paper boy’ but after 20 years of delivering the Review, they are finally giving up their round.

The couple, who are both 82, have pushed the paper through 340 letterboxes in Mitcheldean every week – even organising their holidays so they were back in time to deliver the Forest’s favourite newspaper on a Wednesday.

They have given up the round “with a heavy heart” because of Mr Jones’s deteriorating eyesight.

Mr Jones, who has been the North Gloucestershire Football League’s registration secretary for some 40 years, said: “We have really enjoyed the job and we are giving up with a heavy heart.

“We’ve got to know people and, as far as we are aware, there has never been a complaint about how we’ve done the job.”

Mark Elson, the editor of the Review, said: “We’d like to thank Margaret and Sid for their dedicated work over the last 20 years and wish them a happy ‘retirement’.

“Our army of local distributors do a fantastic job week in, week out, whatever the weather and we are very grateful for their efforts.”
