A TRUCK full of rotten fowl entrails and heads travelled through the Forest leaving behind an atrocious stink and a few choice parts wherever it hit a right hand bend.

And considering its route last Thursday took it all the way through Drybrook to Steam Mills and then along the main road over Plump Hill to Mitcheldean and beyond, that's a lot of bends.

"We have no idea where it was coming from or where it eventually went – we just know it left an almighty stink," said local businessman and district council chief George Read of Longhope.

"Some of my drivers picked up the scent at Drybrook around 11.15 and 11.30am and from there we can trace it all the way round Mitcheldean roundabout and through to Huntley where the trail grows cold.

"It seems the matter was in a tanker and it leaked every time it come to a right bend, with actual chicken parts including heads spilling out.

"By chance I had someone from the Environment Agency with me at the time and they said they would investigate, and it has also been reported to the police."

So far though there is no clue who the truck belonged to, where it had come from and where it was going.

He said he would like to find out because there were possible public health risks and also the possibility of similar spillages happening again. He would welcome a call from anyone who had information.

Even on Tuesday this week some areas still smelt terrible even though Gloucestershire County Council workers had turned out to hose down some of the worst spillage areas, said Mr Read.
