A FOREST chapel was damaged in a fire on Monday morning (January 6).

A member of the public who saw smoke coming from the Congregational chapel in High Street, St Briavels alerted the fire service at about 8am.

Two fire engines with 11 firefighters were sent from Coleford who spent two hours dealing with the fire on the ground floor of the chapel.

The firefighters used two hose reels, four breathing apparatus at the scene along with a positive pressure ventilation fan and a thermal imaging camera.

The fire caused damage to about 10 per cent of the building.
