HEY ho, here we go again. World War Three has broken out once more in Parkend on Saturday evenings for the next month or so.
I live in Whitecroft and became aware of military grade explosions, while indoors, this Saturday evening.
Owning a nervous dog I dutifully kept him indoors until 11pm.
Knowing that it is illegal to let off fireworks after 11pm, I presumed that all would be quiet by then.
Unfortunately, during his late night ablutions, by then at 11.15pm, we were assailed by three explosions from the Parkend direction.
Result: one dog scared out of his wits who could not be consoled or settled into his bed.
I know that in these times it is usual that the many (residents?) seem to have to suffer so that the few (presumably those to whom the Forest is a theme park) can have ‘a good time’.
But I would remind the organisers of this ‘spectacle’ that the law and the views of the locals must be respected.
In case anyone doubts my assertion regarding the 11pm cut-off, an extract from the gov.uk website states: You can’t buy ‘adult’ fireworks if you’re under 18, and it’s against the law for anyone to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am, except on certain occasions.
You must not set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am, except for: Bonfire Night, when the cut off is midnight and New Year’s Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year, when the cut off is 1am.
