MONMOUTH MP Huw Edwards has asked The Environment Agency to convene a 'summit' meeting to thrash out a strategy to prevent future flooding.
In a letter to Mr Roger Thomas, The Environment Agency's general manager for Wales, he says the recent floods demonstrated the need for a thorough assessment of the causes.
He has asked the Agency to call a meeting with the County Council and the Forestry Commission to draw up strategies for flood prevention.
In a statement to the Review, Mr Edwards said the Agency needed more resources to invest in flood prevention work on the Wye and Monnow and local authorities needed to invest in flood prevention to deal with the run-off from the hillsides.
In a letter to Mr Thomas he says: "A significant contributory cause of the flooding is the steep forested land in the Wye Valley which is the responsibility of Forest Enterprise Wales."
