THE number of exhibits may have been slightly down on previous years but committee members of the Aylburton Flower Show said it was still a great event.

There were some fantastic entries including Stella Newman who came first with her homemade chutney.

Secretary treasurer, Gaynor Cooke said: “Stella’s chutney tasted phenomenal, when I asked her what she used in it she just said ‘everything she could find in her allotment’. She said she wouldn’t know how to make it again as she forgot all the different ingredients she used. It was divine.

“We also had another great entry from Dianne Davies who won first prize for her decorated cake celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday. The best in show prize went to Dave Price for his home-grown vegetable hamper which consisted of all sorts of delicious produce.”

The committee say they are particularly concerned by the extremely low amount of entries in the children’s class.

Gaynor added: “It is a real worry for us as the children are the future and without them it’s possible the show will die out. We are not sure if the lack of entries are due to people thinking only children from Aylburton can apply, so we will be looking at expanding the number of primary schools we engage with next year.

“Overall the show was a success with some new faces taking part and a good footfall of people.”

Some £472 was raised and will be used to fill the flower tubs in the village.
