A FORMER Heywood student whose childhood dream was a flying career has just completed his three years of flying training for the RAF.
Sean Davis of Cinderford, now a qualified Tornado navigator, has been posted to RAF Marham in Norfolk and is undergoing a combat-ready work-up for operations in Afghanistan next year.
Sean joined the Airforce as a trainee avionics technician in 2002 at the age of 18, then joined 6 Squadron (Jaguars) in 2004, seeing a lot of America and Europe in the next two years as a technician.
At 21 he went to RAF Cranwell for four days of tests for officer/aircrew selection and was one of the lucky few to be selected to start flying training – a big milestone. He graduated as an officer in 2006.
"I did my arrivals check at the squadron on February 25 this year after flying low and fast over the Forest, and realised my childhood dream had come true," he said.
"I hope that it will inspire local children and show that it doesn't matter where you come from," he said.
"If you want to do something in life you can achieve it. Nothing is impossible."
