CALDICOT Foodbank has reached an agreement with Asda that will allow it to continue collecting at the town branch of the supermarket giant.
Volunteers at the Foodbank were concerned by a change of policy that means Asda will only allow collections at its hypermarkets such as Cribbs Causeway in Bristol.
The local agreement between the Foodbank and Asda means collections will continue.
A spokesperson for Caldicot Foodbank said: “Caldicot Foodbank is grateful to Asda for their consideration and the recognition that their national policy would have had a detrimental effect on our food supplies.”
The Foodbank collects about £60 worth of food at Asda every week which amounts to three food parcels or about 40 per cent of its total requirement.
Caldicot Foodbank is a member of the Newport-based Raven House Trust and is supported by Churches Together in Caldicot.
