A VOLUNTEER-based community organisation has been shortlisted for the Best Food Market award in the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming awards.

Dean Forest Food Hub Ltd, which works to support food producers and improve access to affordable local food across the Forest, is in its second year of trading and has already benefited local food producers and farmers by keeping £36,000 within the local economy.

Food Hub secretary, Ellie van der Heijden said: “This is fantastic recognition for the Food Hub and all the volunteers who work so hard to keep this innovative community project going.

“We would like to thank all the local producers and customers who continue to support us. Hopefully our nomination will inspire many more people across the county and UK to start their own food hub revolution.”

The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Bristol on Thursday, April 28.

Each year the BBC Food and Farming Awards celebrate the people and organisations behind the best of British food.
