THE Forest's last majorette band could be forced to close over the next few weeks unless new members join, says organiser Ian Warren.

The Forest Emeralds are a familiar sight at fetes, carnivals and fun days throughout the area, and they also take part in Remembrance parades and Christmas lights switch-on celebrations.

Mr Warren told the Review that the troupe had reached an all-time low in terms of membership figures, and that the current level would mean that they would not be able to perform at many events that they have already got in their diary.

"If we don't have any more children join the Emeralds in the next couple of weeks then we are going to be forced into closing the band for good," he said.

"It is such a great hobby for the children to take part in – and we really don't want to have to close."

Anyone interested in joining or finding out more can go along to the weekly practice sessions, which are held at the Miners Welfare Hall in Cinderford every Wednesday evening from 5.30pm until 8pm, or contact Ian Warren on 01594 368615.
