THE Rhondda valley and the Forest of Dean have much more in common than coal. The soil and the climates are almost identical so gardeners face similar challenges growing both vegetables and flowers.
Offering a “trick or two” to make the most of the allotment plot or kitchen garden, well-known broadcaster and writer Terry Walton has been prised away from his South Wales allotment leeks and will speak to members and guests of the Bream Gardening Society at the West Dean Centre, Bream, next Tuesday evening (May 10).
Described as a practical gardener, Mr Walton has his own Radio 2 slot and also writes for a leading gardening magazine.
Society spokesman, Diana Standing said: “His advice is down-to-earth and not just about vegetable gardening as he is also an expert with sweet peas. It should be a special evening and, as those who listen to him know, he is also a great story teller.
“The Rhondda valley is not too dissimilar to Bream with regard soil and climate so we should learn a trick or two from one of our best known and respected gardeners.”
Visitors are welcome to attend Tuesday’s talk which starts at 7.30pm.
