FOREST gymnasts were on top form when they resoundingly won round one of Division 2 of the 'A' League in the West Country Gymnastics League.

They beat six other clubs to take first place and team gold medals.

Winning on all apparatus except asymmetric bars where they came second, they beat teams from clubs across the South West and Wales in the all-day event at the Forest of Dean Gymnastics Centre.

The win was made all the sweeter by Phoebe Huxstep, 8, coming first overall and Megan Crook a close second.

The Forest team elected to enter Division 2 this year as they were fielding a very young and less experienced team. The average age allowed for the 'A' League is 11 and with many of last year's team now being ineligible the Forest team was mainly aged 8-9. As this first round was being hosted by the Forest of Dean Gym Club it was good to win in front of a home crowd.

The second round of the League is in October where the girls will endeavour to repeat their success.
