STRONG ties have been formed between Dene Magna Community School and Dago Kokore School, in Kisumu, Western Kenya.

In a visit earlier this summer the Kenyan school's head teacher, Mr Tedman Aloo, visited Dene Magna for several days, talking to students and studying our teaching methods.

Recently Dene Magna was also visited by Gerald Onyango, chairman of the governors of Dago Kokore, who joined students and staff at the first assembly of the new school year.

He told the assembly of the benefits of the link between the two schools and later met staff to talk about plans for future cooperation.

Both visitors spoke well of the kindness and generosity of the people they met, and Mr Aloo planted a tree in the school grounds to commemorate the friendship.

It is hoped that this will lead to exchange visits by both pupils and staff.

The visits were arranged as part of the Gloucestershire Global Footsteps Project.
