THE finals of a Forest pub's open mic competition are being described as a "mini X-Factor" for being so lively and attracting so many talented entrants.

Gary Brown of the Bailey Inn, Yorkley, said the competition in the run-up to Christmas was: "One of the best nights we've ever had at the Bailey. It was an amazing night of music and fun. So many people attended and so many more have been phoning in to find out about the results, it's like our own little mini X-Factor."

Last year's winners, The Stone Saloon, warmed up the crowd, with finalists taking to the stage, including Nights at the Circus, Rachel Gittus, Flipside and Tenacious B and Dead Cat Bounce. But crowned winners, were The James Lovett Trio, just pipping Tom Browning and Gorg & Zola into second and third.

"The crowd were amazing, in a packed pub they really supported each act and created an amazing atmosphere," said Gary.

"Many thanks to our two resident judges, Maria and Barry, my wife Val and Ben from The Stone Saloon who judged on final night. But the biggest thanks to Antony, who stuck with it every week and made sure everything ran smoothly."
