WELL known campaigner and controversial former district councillor Alastair Fraser is to try for a seat at the next Forest of Dean District Council elections. He will contest the Alvington, Aylburton and Lydney west ward on behalf of the UK Independence Party.
Mr Fraser – best known as 'the camel man' – was formerly a member of the Conservative Party. He lost his seat on the council at the last election.
But, he says, he is back to fight the car parking charges issue.
Mr Fraser told the Review: "When I was a member of the council I was the only Conservative to speak out about the car parking issue and a party whip was operating. I was often the lone voice on the council arging that all was not well. Regrettably, I have been proved right," he said.
Mr Fraser said that, if elected, he intended to make sure Forest people received a fair deal.
His decision to fight the Alvington, Aylburton and Lydney seat followed, he said, his move to live at his farm at Alvington.
