LET me congratulate Mr Albert James on being rehoused by TRH. He deserves it.

However, this does not take away the importance of the pensioners who are left to live in disgusting conditions and who are told there is nothing that can be done and to "get on with it".. it can't be rectified.

But we can be rehoused.

An air circulating fan in the attic can help, except during the damp winter months, when most needed, it also sucks away any heating you may have making the house once again freezing.

I have travelled my country far and wide, noticing the 1950s prefabs have long been replaced with warm brick bungalows. But pensioners here are informed they will have to put up with it for another 25 years.

How many will suffer illnesses through these damp and cold conditions? How many lives will end before their time through wanton neglect?

Pensioners go about their days quietly with no fuss. These people were, in their day, soldiers, miners, farm workers etc. They did their bit and a lot more. They deserve better.

I know it is a lot to ask but I would like all those who live in defunct bungalows to write a few lines to the Review agreeing with me that their houses are a disgrace.

I will take it all the way to the top. Put pen to paper. Lest we forget.

– D Thorpe.
