TWO cyclists have planned their route from John O’Groats to Lands End to include a visit to their mum in Cliffords Mesne, near Newent while they fundraise for Great Oaks Hospice.
Chris and Mike Smith are leaving from the most northerly tip of Scotland this Sunday (April 29) and expect the journey of just under 1,000 miles to take seven days.
The brothers are taking to two wheels to travel the length of Britain in memory of their father Paul who died of prostate cancer in April 2017. They have already raised over £6,000, with Gift Aid, for the Dean Forest Hospice.
Chris said: “Great Oaks supported the whole family and sent overnight nursing care for Dad, meaning he was able to stay at home until he died.
“Dad loved cycling too and, after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer three and a half years ago, the three of us cycled from London to Paris.
“Normally people travel the length of Britain from south to north, but we’re starting in Scotland and working our way to Cornwall using a route that has taken us a few months to plan. We’re planning to cycle about 140 miles each day.
“Our mum, Caroline Smith, is driving our support vehicle and on the fifth night, we’re all staying at her home in Cliffords Mesne.”
