MY thanks on behalf of our children and grandchildren to all who worked and voted for the UK to remain in the EU. We came close.

Now, as we warned, the benefits of EU membership are already beginning to unravel.

And some who voted ‘leave’ in protest against the current government, or because they believed Brexit spin, or ‘wanted our country back’ (who had it?) are waking up and wondering what they’ve done.

But it’s too late now, so it’s up to the future generations we were trying to protect to find other ways of solving global problems like climate change, international crime and terrorism, and tax evasion, as well as recovering a share in economic prosperity, scientific endeavour, education, jobs, freedom to travel, social justice and retaining a serious standing and influence in the world.

We have to hope they can do it, and to say to them that we did our best to help in the face of voters who refused to accept the guidance of experts and preferred to believe, wrongly, that problems from movements of people around the world could be solved by withdrawing from communal attempts to face up to them. – David Norman, Blaisdon.
