OVER 100 people enjoyed strolling round the gardens of Westbury and Rodley recently, and while doing so raised £350 for the charity Hope and Homes for Children.
Seven gardens were open during the afternoon which was organised by the Westbury and Newnham charity fundraising group, Tidal Power.
Hope and Homes for Children was started in 1994 by the Commander of the British UN forces in Croatia after he and his wife had witnessed the suffering of children made homeless by the war in the Balkans. Since then the charity has grown and has built small family homes for children in Sierra Leone, Mozambique and Albania as well as the Balkans, and also traces childrens' families and trains foster parents.
Since it started last year, Tidal Power has raised over £2,500 which has been shared between six charities. Plenty more events are being planned and the next will be a 70s disco at Westbury Parish Hall on Saturday, August 26, which will be in aid of the Gloucestershire Air Ambulance. – Di Landon, Hayden Farm, Rodley, Westbury-on-Severn.
