Some weekends I look after my grandchildren, and so we make the lake walk part of their stay, taking sandwiches, sitting on one of the benchs and watching the wildlife.
But this year I have been disgusted at the amount of what I guess is 'goose excrement'. You cannot see the grass for it!
The lake is a public place, walkers, dog walkers, birdwatchers, children and anglers all use it daily. I have stopped taking my grandchildren down there, to their disapointment, as it must be a major health concern. You cannot help but come from there without being caked in the stuff.
I read in this week's Review about parts of Lydney having a rat invasion. Surely this will only make the problem worse.
I have spoken to regulars who use the lake and have the same response, something needs to be done!
I am a wildlife lover myself. I enjoy seeing the various types of wildfoul, but can their be too many? I don't know what the answer is to the problem - council poo patrols? Goose poo bins? But who will pick it up?
If I as a dog owner left its 'you know whats' on the pavement I would be fined. It's no different, but who gets the fine, the geese?
Let's get the boating lake back to the lovely place it should be, so I can enjoy it again with my grandkids, and so can everyone else without getting covered in the 'green stuff'. – A concerned Lydney resident.
