VISITORS to a church flower festival would have had little idea of the last-minute drama in the run-up to colourful display.

Exhibition organisers were supposed to pick up the flowers 48 hours before the doors opened to the public last Thursday at Caldicot Methodist Church.

But when Olive Jeanes arrived at the market in Cardiff she was told the flowers were stuck in the Channel Tunnel.

She said: "It did put us back but we picked them up on Wednesday and everyone really pulled together."

Rev Preben Andersen, the minister at the church, said: "It's a wonderful exhibition and everyone has worked very hard."

The theme of the festival was A Rainbow of Promises and included Biblical and other promises and flowers in the colours of the rainbow.

As well as the flower festival there was also an art exhibition in the church schoolroom by the Caldicot branch of the University of the Third Age and there were 21 exhibits in total.
