MOST people who live in the area covered by the Review will be able to relive the days of steam this weekend – for free.

The Dean Forest Railway is throwing open its trains to people in the GL14, GL15, GL16, GL17, NP16 or NP25 regions to mark the launch of its new residents’ pass.

The railway’s general manager, Andy Blake, said: “Dean Forest Railway is run by enthusiastic volunteers who are all looking forward to ensuring that you have a great day out when you visit us this weekend.

“Although you can join the trains at any of our stations I would suggest that the best place to start would be at our Norchard station on the outskirts of Lydney.”

The four-and-a-half-mile line runs through the beautiful woodland and countryside giving visitors the opportunity to experience a typical country branch line.

There are five stations: Lydney Junction, Lydney Town, Norchard, Whitecroft and Parkend.

To qualify for free travel on Saturday and Sunday, you will have to provide proof of residence. Three children can travel with each adult.
