COTTAGE owners who installed three ‘glamping’ holiday cabins and a timber shower unit and toilet on the site have applied for retrospective planning permission.
The glamping pods – luxury log cabins – have been put up on land at Kiln Cottage, south of Staunton near Coleford, in the Wye Valley AONB.
The applicants, who live in the cottage, want to create “a small scale, low impact, sustainable tourism business” in the grounds.
They say they were wrongly advised about not needing planning permission for the campsite and want to address this “genuine oversight” in time for the spring and summer season. The isolated cottage has “extensive grounds” at the rear leading down to woodland and a disused quarry, Forest planners have been told.
“The proposed development of three ‘glamping’ units and associated facilities is small in scale and will be low impact and environmentally sensitive,” adds the planning statement
“The camping structures and associated activities are very heavily screened and will not be discernible outside of this self-contained site, conserving the scenic beauty of the AONB.”
