THE adventures of Phileas Fogg are the subject of a play to be performed at May Hill village hall on Friday, February 2 and Saturday, February 3.

The May Hill Players are presenting Around the World in 80 Days, described by writer and director Maurice Thompson as a “witty, fast moving romp.”

Maurice said: “It is adapted from the novel by Jules Verne and visits France, Italy, Egypt, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, USA and Ireland before returning to London.

“Phileas Fogg and his companions travel by train, ship, elephant, boat, and hot air balloon, narrowly surviving storms at sea, being shot at and escaping capture by vagabonds.

“It is 1872 and Fogg has wagered half his fortune that he can travel around the world in 80 days. His friends have bet against him, saying it is impossible and the actions of the mysterious Inspector Fix are not helpful to Fogg’s progress.

“Join us to find out whether Phileas Fogg loses the wager and whether he wins something else altogether.”

The amateur dramatic group, based on May Hill in the Forest, has been performing for over 25 years.

“The show includes the musical culture of six countries, acrobats forming a human pyramid and a chance to find out how you fly a hot air balloon in May Hill Village Hall.” Maurice added.

The Friday performance is at 7:30pm, while on Saturday there is a matinee at 2:30pm and an evening show at 7:30pm. Visit www.
