DESPITE an ‘outstanding’ rating by Ofsted, a playgroup in the Forest has started the academic year with low numbers, it says.
Coleford St Johns Playgroup was inspected last May and inspectors found that children “thrive in this extremely caring environment” and “the playgroup leader and her staff are outstanding teachers.”
Chair of the playgroup, Lauren Dewberry, said: “We are a warm and friendly playgroup run by a parent-based committee. We have been active in the local area for over 50 years.
“We have recently received outstanding from Ofsted, but are facing a quiet year ahead with low numbers of children as we begin our academic year.”
Key findings from the Ofsted report included that: “Children thrive in this extremely caring environment.
“They have excellent self-esteem and their high levels of confidence show they feel very emotionally secure.
“The staff complete extremely accurate assessments of children’s learning. The playgroup leader monitors individual and groups of children’s progress extensively…
“The playgroup lea-der and her staff are outstanding teachers. They are well qualified and use their knowledge and experience to provide exciting activities that capture children’s imagination and curiosity.”
“I’m very proud of our amazing staff, committee, parents and of course children,” added Lauren Dewberry.
