TWO Rivers Housing are offering ten of its tenants the chance to have a free 'computer confidence' course.

Two Rivers Housing has joined forces with Gloucestershire College to offer novice computer users the chance to take part in a six-week course where they will be taught basic computer skills, such as using Word and Excel and setting up an email account.

The course, which runs from the end of September, will also equip tenants with how to use the internet which comes in the light of the new changes to those claiming benefits when Universal Credit is introduced.

Emma Towler, community involvement coordinator said: "We live in a digital world that excludes people who do not know how to use a computer. We know that many of our tenants are not online and will therefore struggle to claim their benefits when the Government introduces Universal Credit in this area. This course will give them the basics to get them started.

"There are also people who are eager to find out more about this online world, but have never had the chance. In a rural area like the Forest of Dean, things such as online shopping and banking can make life a lot easier, and being able to compare utility company prices and insurance quotations can save a lot of money. The internet can also be used for entertainment and research as well as a way of keeping in touch with others. It's a whole new world which some people might want to explore and this course gives them that opportunity."

The course runs between September 26 and November 7 at the Forest Road Centre in Cinderford for six two-hour sessions running from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. Tenants can book a place by calling 0800 316 0897.
