A REFUGEE charity is appealing for help after good news for another local charity is forcing it to move out of the Chepstow building it uses to process aid donations from the public.

Chepstow Mencap responded to an appeal from the group last year, when they had to relocate from Caldicot.

The charity owns the Old Board School in Chepstow which was disused at the time, so they allowed iNEED to set up their base there.

Mencap have been awarded £500,000 Lottery funding to transform the landmark building into a new centre for people with disabilities.

But this means that the refugee charity needs to find somewhere else to sort through the bags of clothing, bedding, toiletries and other aid that people across the Forest of Dean and south Wales regularly donate.

“We’re hoping to find a building in Caldicot, Chepstow, Magor or Rogiet,” founding iNEED member Julia Rowe told the Review.

“As a newly registered charity, we really need to keep our costs down. If anyone knows of a suitable building, they can contact us through our Facebook page or ring me.

“We can stay where we are until December 15, but then Mencap need to begin work on their new centre. We’re really pleased for them, and would really like to thank them for allowing us to use the board school while they applied for the funding.

“In the meantime, with winter approaching, we’re appealing for bedding and warm clothing and shoes for children and adults. Toiletries and medical equipment are also very welcome.”
