THE residents of Pillowell have always been active with a good community spirit helped by the presence of a village magazine.
In 2003 Cindy Goodlad started publishing the quarterly newsletter The Pillowell Post, which served the village well covering everything from the primary school to the impressive silver band and the ever-popular Pillowell Singers to coffee mornings, keep fit, events and the village fete.
But when Cindy left the village in 2011, Julia Stevens, with the help of Rosemary Morgan took over the running of the publication, which was distributed to 200 houses, until the final issue, which was printed in December 2016.
But over the past year a new monthly newsletter, called the Yorkley Newsletter, was founded and began publication to cover the four villages Pillowell, Oldcroft, Viney Hill and Yorkley.
Edited by Jeane Ball, The Yorkley Newsletter has been developing slowly and now has an impressive circulation of 1,000, which means a wider audience to publicise local events.
The timing was perfect for Julia as she knew that she would be unable to run The Pillowell Post indefinitely and encouraged the new venture.
Last week the Pillowell Post volunteers invited helpers and supporters to a farewell coffee morning at the village hall which had been beautifully decorated.
Julia thanked everyone who had supported the Pillowell Post over the years and was touched when she was presented with a beautiful Spring Flower Arrangement and card from Jeane and the Yorkley Newsletter team.
She then presented Jeane with a bottle of sparkling wine for her to share with her helpers as a token for all they have done and will do in the future.
