EIGHTY pots of chrysanthemums were on display at the Forest Chrysanthemum Society’s
annual show
on Saturday (November 11), with the best turn out the show has ever had.
The event took place at the Masonic Centre in Lydney and included a raffle and refreshments as well as classes for judging.
Minutes secretary David Price, who walked away with a number of prizes on the day, said: “It was an excellent day and a very successful show. We probably had around 130 or 140 blooms on display, which is up on last year, despite having fewer growers.
“People take part from all over the Forest and we were very pleased with the turnout. We had more people visiting this year than for any other show. The society has been going for over 20 years now and we’ve had a show for the last eight or nine years.”
Best vase in show, with five blooms, went to David Price, as did best intermediate, best fantasy bloom and the silver and bronze medals.
Chair of the society, David Hunt, won the best reflex bloom, best anemone was awarded to John Addis, and Arthur Wilkes received the certificate of merit. Trophies were presented by Bruce Reed, who retired from the society last year.
David Hunt said: “Cuttings for next year are available in February and March and we’re always keen to hear from people who would like to join us. We meet once a month on a Sunday morning.”
“We’d like to thank all the ladies who supplied refreshments,” David Price added.
