YORKLEY'S well-known Village Hall, fondly nicknamed the 'Green Hut', is 100 years old this year.

To mark the occasion there's a series of events in the form of a centenary festival starting this Saturday (August 27).

To find out more about the founding of the hall in 1911 as a miners' welfare hall there will be an exhibition of local photographs and memorabilia on August 31 at 7.30pm to be opened by Baroness Jan Royall with talks about the founding of the hall by local historians Averil Kear and Steve Cooper.

The exhibition will also feature the first ever showing of the 'Kev and Dave' cartoons by the Review's regular cartoonist, Baz. Not to be missed.

The full round up of events is as follows:

August 27: from 6.30pm proms in the park with the Forest of Dean Brass with bar and barbecue.

August 31: from 7.30pm centenary night with Baroness Royall, exhibition of memorabilia and talks by local historians.

September 3: Coffee morning from 10am followed by The Harvey Trail at 10.30am and a centenary dinner dance and celebration from 7.30pm.
