COMMUNITY takeover plans for the Naas Lane community centre have been given the thumbs up to move ahead.

A business case for the 'Lydney Youth Centre' has now been assessed and approved by Gloucestershire County Council, which owns the former school and neighbouring buildings.

The Naas Lane case has been put forward by a partnership of Lydney Sea Cadets, who use an outlying building, and the newly formed Lydney Community Centre Management Committee.

It is understood that as part of the business case the buildings will be used to continue the current Sea Cadets activities while developing as a community hub and providing further youth provision in the future.

The decision does not guarantee the future of Naas Lane, but provides approval for grant money to be provided to complete a full business case. Only after the business case has been approved will the future of the centre be more certain.
