GRITTERS have been sent to a road in Berry Hill as roads melt in the heat.

Grove Road in Berry Hill is one of seven across Gloucestershire that have needed emergency treatment.

Gritters crews are spreading granite dust by hand on small areas of the affected roads.

Bob Skillern, area highways manager at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Our gritter crews are busy putting down granite dust around the county where road conditions have deteriorated due to the hot weather.

“These areas are quite small so we’re spreading the dust by hand.

“We have vehicles ready if we need to treat larger sections and we’ll continue to monitor the situation.”

The hot weather is set to continue with temperatures set to reach 27 degrees centigrade (nearly 81 fahrenheit) on the weekend.
