LOU Summers, Vanessa Lawson and Helen Duffield, running for host club Chepstow Harriers, triumphed in Sunday's Offa's 'Orror race.

The men's team prize was taken over the border by Hereford Couriers who travel down the Wye Valley every year for this popular 12-mile hilly run up and along the ancient Offa's Dyke.

Lou and Vanessa also won age category prizes, while Katie Beecham of Cardiff's Les Croupiers Club was overall women's winner.

Robin Smoult, of Newport's Lliswerry Runners, was race winner in the creditable time of 1 hour, 25 minutes.

Race director Colin Prosser said he was delighted with the event's success, and paid tribute to the members and families of the Harriers who marshalled the 200-plus runners, manned the four drink stations and directed the car parking. He also thanked the race sponsors.

Many runners, spectators and helpers lingered afterwards in the warm spring sun on the Tintern sports field to enjoy the cakes, tea and beer provided by the Harriers.
