I was astonished to read a press release from Mr Harper's office, indicating that his constituents who are given treatment by the Welsh NHS rather than the English, may be receiving inferior services. When I first read this I emailed him immediately, asking on what evidence he bases this opinion, but have so far received no response.

If he has no evidence and is merely pandering to prejudices and preconceptions, then his words are inflammatory and will spread unnecessary alarm and despondency. If he has done the research and can offer facts, not rumours or anecdotes, then he should publish it.

My GP is in Monmouth and although I am one of Mr Harper's constituents I am currently being treated in Welsh hospitals. I am copying this letter to my GP, to the Welsh Minister of Health and to my own two consultants.

In case of any misunderstanding I point out that I am not a doctor of medicine, but add my degree to indicate a certain level of research-based education. Perhaps Mr Harper could furnish us with similar? Unless I receive a satisfactory response from him he will forfeit my vote at the next election. As things stand at the moment he is doing a great disservice not only to a few of his own constituents but to the entire population of Wales.
